New Series: What is the Good News?
I am super excited about the new series the Sr High class is starting the Sunday entitled Kerygma: What is the Good News?
I am a Christ-follower with a passion for evangelism, particularly in the form of interpersonal conversation. Over the years, I have gained an additional passion for creatively communicating the good news of salvation through stories, images, and songs. In the process, I have found that there are often assumptions I bring to the scripture text that over-simplify and sometimes even distort the freedom that the Gospel is meant to bring. From the other side, I have found that the images and simple explanations I am comfortable with sometimes have little impact on non-Christians or even damaging impacts on folks who carry wounds and baggage tied to certain language.
The goal of this new series is to reengage the Gospel story with fresh eyes. We want to be so immersed in the stories and images of the Gospel in the scripture text that we can speak it in our own words - whether it's in a single sentence or a half-hour conversation. I want to encourage my Sr High students to come and learn with me as we discuss:
- Why Did Jesus Have to Die? - Jesus' own perspective on the cross
- The Good News According to the Early Apostles - a look at how the Gospel is preached in Acts
- A Walk Along the Romans Road - delving into Paul's language on salvation
- Images of Salvation in the New Testament - joining in the creative diversity of salvation imagery
Come join us back here each week for some follow-up thoughts on each lesson! Hope to see you on Sunday mornings!
