Advent Offering 2014

Throughout Advent season, Park Street Brethren church will seek to express the incarnation of our Lord and Savior in tangible ways to our neighbors near and far. Through an Advent Offering, we will partner with local, regional, and global ministries by way of financial support for administrative, spiritual, and daily needs.

Our Parish Ministries and church leaders have voiced desire to continue the relational and ongoing partnership we have with five vital ministries (see below). You are encouraged to give as the Lord leads from now until the first week of January. The PSBC Christmas Eve offering will be designated to the Advent Offering. If you wish, you may designate your giving to a particular ministry.

Radial Church: Now in its third year, our Brethren church plant in Canton, Ohio is led by Pastor Dustin White and his wife Jamie. With their dynamic team, neighborhood house churches are thriving, people with severe emotional and physical needs are receiving ministry, and food and clothing are made available to the homeless.

H2Ope for Kenya: Under the direction of Pump House Ministries International, funds are raised to provide water filters for Kenya villages in need of purified water. Each year, villagers die of dysentery, e-coli, diphtheria, and cholera because of the germs and bacteria in their water. In Ashland, Pumphouse Ministries is working to improve the condition of the Men's Shelter here in Ashland.

Riverside School (Lost Creek, KY): The school’s computer lab is outdated - most of the computers they are using are 10-12 years old running windows 98 and XP. A portion of the Advent offering will be using to equip the computer lab with Chromebooks, which will greatly improve the educational experience for Riverside students.

Chicontla Community Relief: The Park Street Chicontla missions team has talked extensively with community and church leaders about possible projects and their priorities; two projects have been identified. The repair of Middle School Court is a real community need and effort and it is a real privilege to be able to work with local government and church leaders to help in this way. Those who are part of the predominately Catholic culture are a bit surprised and amazed by our compassion and faith by helping the people beyond our own faith tradition. The expansion of the Hog project, while only helping a few families, has huge ripples because these families are committed to sharing their knowledge and resources with other families as they advance. As of now, some families have the pigs living with them. This project will allow some of these families to provide the kinds of space and pens that will allow them some breathing room.

Tiny Hands International: Tiny Hands is a Christian organization committed to finding the greatest injustices in the world, and working towards relieving them however possible.  They are particularly called to orphans, street children, and the victims of the sex-trafficking industry. This year the Advent offering will support a station that is set on the Nepal-India border to rescue people that are being trafficked into India. The support of this station is critical in that kids who are rescued are kept from getting to the brothels of India. Our support will allow a station to be funded for an entire year.
