About Jason
I am a journeyer for Christ. I ramble, I go on tangents and I rarely stay on topic for too long. Some have even described my life as a tangent in the thought of God. I live in Ashland, Ohio with my lovely wife, Allison Rae. Together, we are in the process of raising two ungraceful mutts, Lucky (a Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix) and Spencer (a Labrador/Terrier mix).
My wife is a graphic designer for Red Red Design here in Ashland. I serve in ministry alongside youth and young adults at Park Street Brethren Church. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Ashland University in 2004 with majors in Religion and Ethics and a minor in Psychology. My wife also graduated from Ashland University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Commercial Design. She spent a year at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In June 2008, I received my Master of Divinity (I have no idea what the title of the degree means) from Ashland Theological Seminary. This Fall, I will be continuing my education pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy at Regent University.
The largest piece of news is that this summer I will become a Dad. (Actually, if I believe life begins at conception I’ve already become a Dad.) I am open to where the Lord leads me. This child represents the greatest test to my life. At the end of my life, God will not give a rip about degrees or writing. I believe he will look at my relationship with my family. Was I like my Abba in my love for them?
Originally from McGaheysville (pronounced Mc-Gakees-Vil), VA, I moved to Ashland in 2001 for schooling purposes. Listen to me speak for a little while and through my twang, odd pronunciation of key words, and quick, slurry speech, you’ll know I’m from somewhere other than Ashland.
As of currently, I’ve becomed obsessed with windmills. I believe they are a perfect metaphor for the journey of faith and worship. A friend of mine told me that windmills represent humanity’s ingenuity and God’s raw power meeting. Out of this meeting comes creative authority and energy. I desperately want my life to be like a windmill. I want to find my calling, identity, and life satisfaction in the direction of God’s movement.
Thanks for journeying with me through the rambling and tangents that is this blog. I hope that you and I can enter into a conversation and find a generative friendship that will manifest Christ to each other. Welcome to Windmills!
