Park Street Brethren Church believes in marriage. When God created humankind, He put His image into us as male and female, with the plan that the two together should live in a relationship of love which reflects the image of the Father. Marriage is the God-given foundation of human relationships and the family is the core of human development. Park Street Church wants to do all we can to encourage and strengthen healthy, growing, and rewarding marriages. To this end we support a marriage policy that requires all premarital couples to partner with another couple in a mentoring relationship.
Marriage Mentors are couples who have been married at least three years and feel they have a healthy (not perfect) marriage. Mentor couples meet with the premarital couple three times prior to the marriage and once six months to a year after the marriage. Sometimes friendships develop that lead to the couples meeting much more than this, simply for fun. Mentors are trained to work with the couple toward growing the healthiest relationship possible.
Additionally, the Marriage Mentor program connects premarital couples with another couple in the church to whom they can go with questions or doubts, and the Mentors can offer a listening ear and the perspective of someone who is at least a little further down the road of matrimony. Marriage Mentors are not experts, they simply want to help other couples get a good start in marriage.
