YBF Update: New 3-Track YBF Series
For the month of May 2014, we will be taking a break from our 1st hour Jr/Sr high split and instead running 3 parallel series tracks that students can choose between: Parables of Jesus, Women in Scripture, and Spiritual Gifts. Students will meet in Sr High room at 9AM as usual for prayer and announcements. Then we will break off into our separate locations for our classes. 2nd hour YBF (10:30) with Jim Kirtland will continue as usual for the month of May. See below for some more info on each of our 3 series tracks:
Parables of Jesus
Teachers: Cory Smith & Joe Ellis
Students will look at how and why Jesus uses parables to communicate his message to the crowds by examining several different parables. By the end of the series, we hope to gain a better understanding of what Jesus says through his parables and how we can imitate him in creatively communicating the good news through parables.
Women in Scripture
Teachers: Jessie Ellis & Laura Kollar
Students will learn about females are represented in scripture, mostly in the New Testament. As was common during the biblical setting, and unfortunately through much of history, we encounter women in scripture who are often stripped of rights or privilege. However, we find that when those in need encounter Jesus, they are given new life and hope. By the end of the series, we hope to gain a better understanding of how women are represented in scripture, how they are transformed by Jesus, and what that can tell us about feminine identity today.
Spiritual Gifts
Teachers: Paula Strickland and Lydia Felker
Students will take an in-depth look at how scriptures talk about the spiritual gifts in order to discover how God is at work within their own lives. By the end of the month, we hope to have a better understanding of what spiritual gifts are and how God is equipping each of us individually to take part in the church's combined witness and ministry in the world.
